Kernel Horticultural Services are proud to be a small company - it's how we keep our prices so low and our customer service so high.

The business is owned and operated by Jasper Hirst, a landscape gardener and professional designer with years of experience. Based in Manchester, we offer the full spectrum of gardening, landscaping and grounds maintenance services throughout the Northwest, including Worsley, Sale, Altrincham, Whalley Range, Trafford, Chorlton, Didsbury, Fallowfield, Cheadle, Alderley Edge, and various areas in Lancashire.

Having worked for a well known local firm of landscape gardeners, Jasper decided to expand his horizons and set up in business for himself. With many years construction and gardening expertise, complemented by a wealth of previous design work for diverse businesses, Jasper can justifiably claim Kernel is the synergy of creativity and practical ability.

A Word About The Name

Why kernel? Well we thought it sums up what we are about as an organisation rather nicely. The dictionary often describes defines a "kernel" as:

1) A grain or seed, as of a cereal grass, enclosed in a husk.

2) The inner, usually edible seed of a nut or fruit stone.

3) The most central or essential part of something; ie "there is a kernel of truth in these remarks".

4) Derived from Old English 'cyrnel' meaning a little seed.
